Palm & Passion Sunday | 10am at Island Creek Elementary

Palm & Passion Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week. Other years, we have spent this Sunday moving from “Hosanna” to “Crucify Him” throughout the service. But this year, since will will have moved through Holy Week during our sermon series “The Week We {Don’t} Know Well,” we experience this day in reverse, rewinding from the passion of the cross to palms waving.

As you arrive to worship, you will notice the altar stripped, the room bare, and tone silent and somber. Throughout the service the esthetics and tone will build in reverse from cross to Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

The Sunday before Jesus’ crucifixion, Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey with all of the triumph of a great king. As he processed into the city, the crowds would have waved palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna!” As we exit, we will embody this in our worship, waving our branches high, recessing out together, and singing and receiving our benediction outside. The children will rejoin us for this experience!

Stay for our family-centric Donkey Day egg hunt, pin the tail on Jesus’ donkey, and donkey cookies on the lawn following worship!
