Egg-Scaveganza at the Park

While egg hunts are plentiful throughout the Easter season, we promise you've never attended an egg hunt like this one!

This year, join the Neighborkind Collective (a local network of local churches, nonprofits and businesses) for a community Egg-Scavenger Hunt along Chessie's Trail at Franconia District Park (6601 Telegraph Rd, Alexandria, VA 22310), full of interactive surprises and fun along the way for families with kids of all ages, on Sunday, April 6 from 11:30-1:30pm, immediately following a 10am worship service at the park's amphitheater.

Details

Make your way down one of our two egg-scavenger hunt trails, hunting for 8-10 interactive stations with egg-centric games, relays, crafts and more, collecting eggs along the way at each station to turn in at the end for a generous bag of Easter treats.

Admission

This event is FREE to our community, and all are welcome, but in an effort to do the most good, we ask that you bring one or more new and unopened packages of children's socks and underwear (all sizes) in an effort to help us support the Fund for Alexandria's Child, a nonprofit that works to enhance the quality of life of children in foster care and children at risk of abuse and neglect in our area.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  How long is the trail?
Chessie's Trail is .4 mi long in total, but for the purpose of this hunt, it will be divided into one shorter (.15 mi) and one longer (.25 mi) trails. Participants can choose which trail they would like to hunt along. Both trails will have the same stations just spread further apart on the longer one.

2. How long will the hunt take to complete?
From the moment a family is released toward the first station, it should take them about 45 minutes to find, experience, and complete each 5 min or less station.

3. Where do I register? Can I reserve a time slot?
Advance registration is not available for this egg hunt. Line up with your family, first come, first serve, and beginning at 11:30am, groups of 10-12 kids (plus guardians) will be dismissed every 5 minutes at each of the two trails to move through the stations. Each group will have a guide who will help move the group along and eliminate backups.

4. Are kids divided into age groups?
No, kids are dismissed in groups of 10-12 plus accompanying adults based on their first-come, first serve place in line. Participants can decide which of the two trails to walk, and we anticipate the shorter trail may be more desirable by families with younger kids.

5. What ages is the hunt designed for?
The egg hunt stations are designed to be easily adaptable for all egg-hunting ages (usually 5-5th grade). Stations will include relays, games, quick crafts, etc. and volunteers can increase and decrease the difficulty based on the ages of the participants in a group.

6. How will kids receive their candy?
Children will collect empty color-coded eggs per their finding and completing each interactive station; then they will turn those eggs in for a generous bag of treats at the end.

7. Will the treats be allergy-friendly and toddler-friendly?
Yes, all bags of candy will be nut-free and there will be special bags available with toddler appropriate candy or toys instead of treats.

8. It's close to lunchtime; will there be food?
Yes, there will be a few food trucks parked in the cul-de-sac by the playground for public purchase.

9. Are there nearby restrooms?
Yes, there are restrooms near the park's playground for public use.
